I really like this quote about play that a friend of mine recently posted on facebook.   It is from Fred McFeely Rogers (1928-2003)  who was an American educator, songwriter, author and television host. He suggests that  the word ‘play” is often used to imply that valuable learning is NOT taking place.

Today at Kindergarten we witnessed some serious learning evolving – through play.

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood. Fred “mr” Rogers.
